Mission EDC Announces Joe Salazar as Acting CEO

MISSION, TEXAS — The Mission Economic Development Corporation (Mission EDC) has named Joe Salazar, the organization’s Financial Officer, as Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective September 9, 2026. Salazar will lead the organization during the transition as Mission EDC moves forward with the process of filling the CEO position.

A Mission resident with more than 15 years of public-sector financial experience, Salazar brings extensive knowledge of the community, municipal operations and Mission EDC’s economic development priorities to the role. Before joining Mission EDC in February 2024, he served as an accountant with the City of Mission for 13 years. As Mission EDC’s Financial Officer, Salazar oversees the organization’s budget, financial compliance and reporting, and investments, while working closely with leadership on the financial planning and execution of key programs, projects and economic development initiatives. He is also currently completing the Texas Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program through UTRGV Professional Education & Workforce Development, further strengthening his leadership and public management experience.

Salazar’s appointment follows the retirement of Teclo Garcia, who concluded four years as CEO and more than 19 years of municipal service in South Texas. Under his leadership, Mission EDC advanced major investments, business development projects and programs supporting Mission’s continued economic growth.

As Acting CEO, Salazar will oversee Mission EDC’s day-to-day operations and work closely with staff, the Board of Directors, City leadership and community partners to continue advancing the organization’s economic development priorities.
