Mission Ready prepares Mission students for real-world success by connecting education with hands-on internship experiences. Through skill-building, mentorship, and career exposure, the program equips students with the confidence, knowledge, and professional readiness needed to thrive beyond the classroom.
Mission Ready envisions a future where every Mission student graduates career-ready, community-connected, and empowered to pursue meaningful opportunities, strengthening the local workforce and shaping the next generation of leaders in Mission, Texas.
What is Mission Ready?
Mission Ready places students in paid summer internships with local small businesses. → Businesses build their future workforce → Students learn & earn.
Students will:
Pre-program:
- Apply for appropriate internships
- Attend an “Orientation”
- Interview for the job
During/Post-Program:
- Gain a certification
- Gain applicable job experience & Training
- Earn an income for the summer
Employers will:
Pre-program:
- Apply to be an employer
- Attend an employer orientation
- Interview candidates
During/Post-Program:
- Gain access to new talent (at no cost)
- Solve a business problem
- Transfer knowledge to the next generation

Mission Ready: Student Selection Process
The Mission Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) serves as the program administrator for Mission Ready, ensuring a structured, equitable, and high-quality selection process that connects students with internship opportunities.
Application Process
All interested students must apply through the MEDC website. The application collects key information including:
- Academic background
- Career interests and industry preferences
- Extracurricular and volunteer experience
- Resume submission
- Parent/guardian consent (if applicable)
Please note: Submission of an application does not guarantee placement. Mission Ready is a competitive program with a limited number of internship opportunities.
Pre-Screening & Eligibility Verification
Prior to evaluation, MEDC staff will conduct an initial eligibility review to ensure applicants meet program requirements, including:
- Residency within Mission city limits or enrollment in a Mission-based school
- Completion of all required application components
- Verified parent or guardian consent for applicants under 18
Only applicants who meet these criteria will advance to the formal evaluation phase
Initial Screening & Evaluation
MEDC will conduct a comprehensive review of all eligible applications to identify top candidates based on:
- Alignment with selected industries
- Demonstrated interest and initiative
- Relevant skills, experience, and coursework
- Overall application quality and completeness
Candidate Matching
MEDC will coordinate the first phase of placement by aligning the most qualified candidates with participating Mission businesses based on:
- Industry interest and career goals
- Skillset and experience level
- Employer needs and role requirements
Employer Interview & Final Selection
Selected candidates will be referred to employers for interviews. Participating businesses will have the opportunity to:
- Interview assigned candidates
- Evaluate fit for their organization
- Make the final selection for their internship placement
Program Commitment
Students selected for the program will be expected to:
- Attend a mandatory orientation session
- Commit to the full duration of the internship program
- Maintain professionalism and uphold program expectations
