MISSION, TEXAS – A new chapter is underway for one of the Rio Grande Valley's most iconic destinations.

The Mission Economic Development Corporation (Mission EDC), in partnership with the City of Mission, has completed the sale of the historic Cimarron Country Club property to New Cimarron Group, LLC, a private ownership group led by Mission native and internationally recognized professional golfer Abraham Ancer and supported by Mexico-based investment group GDI FUSA.

The ownership group plans to invest millions of dollars into the restoration and transformation of the nearly 200-acre property while preserving the legacy and character that made Cimarron Country Club a cornerstone of the community for more than four decades.

Redevelopment plans include a comprehensive renovation of the club's facilities while maintaining its signature features, including the 18-hole championship golf course, driving range, and clubhouse. Planned improvements also include upgraded amenities, technology enhancements, expanded dining options, enhanced event spaces, and the future development of a boutique hotel.

These investments will return the iconic country club, long considered a hallmark of Rio Grande Valley golf, business, and social life, to its former prominence while positioning it for a new generation of members and visitors.

"This investment represents the revival of an institution that has been woven into the fabric of our community for generations," said Mission Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza, who also serves on the Mission EDC Board of Directors. "The investors' vision will preserve the property's legacy while creating a tourism destination that attracts new visitors, supports local businesses, and generates significant economic impact for years to come."

Mission EDC acquired the property in 2025 with the goal of preserving an important community asset and securing a long-term redevelopment partner capable of restoring the facility. Through collaboration with the City of Mission and private sector partners, the organization successfully positioned the property for reinvestment and future growth.

The New Cimarron Group includes several regional and international investors and is anchored by Abraham Ancer, a Sharyland High School graduate, PGA Tour winner, LIV Golf champion, and one of the most accomplished golfers in Mexican history.

Members of the ownership group currently own and operate two premier golf facilities in Mexico City including the Bosque Real Country Club and Lomas Country Club, bringing decades of golf and hospitality experience to the project. Several members of the investment team also own homes within the Cimarron community and maintain strong business ties throughout South Texas and northern Mexico.

"The redevelopment of Cimarron is a game-changing project," said Teclo J. Garcia, Chief Executive Officer of Mission EDC. "This investment restores a signature and culturally significant property while creating a destination that will serve families, businesses, and visitors for generations to come."

Garcia added that the project will also have a significant economic impact on the region.

"Hundreds of temporary and permanent jobs will be created through construction, hospitality, golf operations, food and beverage services, and future hotel development. This project represents exactly the type of transformational investment Mission EDC works to attract and support."

Originally opened in 1983, Cimarron Country Club quickly became one of the premier private golf destinations in South Texas. The golf course was originally designed by renowned architect Dave Bennett. Following its closure, Mission EDC acquired the property in 2025 to preserve the landmark and pursue opportunities for redevelopment.

Today, through the partnership between Mission EDC, the City of Mission, and New Cimarron Group, LLC, the historic property is poised to once again become a premier destination for golf, hospitality, business, and community life in the Rio Grande Valley.
