Internship program starts next week
This year’s interns, and tomorrow’s workforce, are finishing up their orientation and will soon embark on a summer of skill-building, mentorship, and career exposure. From now through August, students start building their future right here in Mission.
Students learn. Businesses grow. Mission moves forward.
Administered directly by the Mission EDC, Mission Ready places high school and college students in paid summer internships with local businesses across Mission, TX. By matching ambitious young talent with expanding enterprises, the program creates a collaborative ecosystem where businesses cultivate their future workforce while students earn and learn.
Fifteen Pathways to Success
Mission Ready spans across 15 distinct commercial and industrial sectors. Regardless of whether a student’s path trends toward advanced tech, heavy industrial trades, or professional corporate administration, an aligned internship corridor is available.

Eligibility & Matching Process
To qualify, students must reside directly within the Mission city limits or be actively enrolled in a Mission-based school system. Applications collect comprehensive breakdowns of the student’s academic background, career interests, extracurriculars, and a formal resume submission.
This year, 155 applications were submitted for the program’s 15 slots. Next year, we’re hoping to double those openings to 30. Stay tuned.
Once vetted by the Mission EDC staff for compliance, applications are then evaluated based on demonstrated initiative, relevant coursework, and industrial alignment. Top candidates are then paired with matching local businesses, where employers interview the candidates and make a final placement decision.
Note: Mission Ready is a competitive program with a limited number of internship opportunities. Submission of an application does not guarantee placement.
Mission Ready Empowers Students
Mission Ready ensures that every participating student in the city graduates connected to their community, career-ready, and completely empowered to chase worthwhile opportunities. The initiative introduces students to real-world workplace environments, equipping them with the confidence, knowledge, and career exposure necessary to thrive immediately upon entering the job market.
Instead of basic seasonal work, student interns secure applicable, industry-specific job experience and training. During or after the program, they gain tangible industry certifications that immediately improve their resumes. And they get paid, too, all while learning and improving technical skills that will continue to carry market value wherever they go next.
Mission Ready Reinforces Local Business
Small businesses face continuous challenges when allocating capital toward recruitment and onboarding. Mission Ready removes this friction.
Through Mission Ready, local employers gain access to motivated student talent at no cost to the enterprise itself. These students are curious and competent and eager to solve real, day-to-day business problems, expanding the operational capacity of the company. This framework directly trains the next generation of workers and leaders in the local economy.
Good Luck, Mission Ready 2026!
