Mission EDC hires four new interns. Students will assist staff and gain valuable real-world experience.

MISSION, TEXAS – August 14, 2017 – Mission EDC welcomed four new interns in July to the CEED Building where they will work alongside professionals in their chosen field of study through December 2017.

The Mission EDC’s internship program is a collaboration with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with the goal of teaching students how their majors can play a role in the world of economic development – all the while earning a paycheck.

Mission EDC partnered with UTRGV to create the internship program in order to introduce students to all of the innovative projects being presented by the EDC. Meanwhile, Alex Meade, Mission EDC’s CEO, said that he hoped that Mission EDC staff could also learn from the students especially in the area of technology.

“We felt that creating an internship program with positions that focused on areas such as technology and marketing was a natural next step for us,” said Meade. “UTRGV has a talented pool of students who are eager to get real-world experience. We want to create a win-win situation with this program so that students and the Mission EDC both benefit, and I think we’ve done that.”

Meade added that having students work with Mission EDC and experience the environment at CEED also creates great opportunities to develop advocates for small business, entrepreneurship, innovation and technology related businesses.

Mission EDC, a component of the City of Mission, Texas, is tasked with creating jobs, attracting capital investment, improving the quality of life and strengthening the workforce in Mission. Mission EDC accomplishes its task by focusing in five areas: entrepreneurship and STEAM education, business expansion and retention, recruitment, infrastructure and transportation and quality of life.
